More than 80% of the respondents said that virtual hiring means access to a larger talent pool in a recent poll we conducted.
What happens post the hiring will determine if ‘Work From Home’ is here to stay.
Organisations today have a larger responsibility to ensure they are able to retain that talent and the first step to it is through an excellent on-boarding experience.
Employee on-boarding has undergone a massive change in the last few months. Employers have been careful in ensuring that on-boarding is seamless even if it is happening virtually. Indeed, there has been a tons of restructuring and a lot of creative ways have been incorporated to facilitate virtual on-boarding. In spite of these efforts, it continues to pose certain challenges in the form of:
- Team alignment
- Organisational affiliation
- Productivity management
- Positive team dynamics
So, what are organisations doing to ensure that their workforce is future ready.
We made a list of 10 things that organisations are doing to overcome these challenges based on the responses from our survey
- Keep the communication channel going between confirmation and actual joining
- Assign a ‘buddy’ who can assist new employees during the process
- Staggered one –on –one interaction across functions encourage organisational affiliation and also build cross functional knowledge
- Schedule conversation with representatives of the social committee or fun committees to build organisational affiliation
- Creative videos on ‘A day in the life of a…’
- Share distinct key milestones for the next 3-6 months
- Interaction with Senior Leadership through recorded videos on different topics at various stages
- Strong in-house mentorship programs
- Assign online courses that can be attended above and beyond the product and process training
- Leverage on a repository of ‘self-help’ reading materials like essential articles, websites, competitors’ information etc. in the LMS
The collaborative initiative across functions to make virtual on-boarding successful is definitely very encouraging.
Of course, it would take a fortune teller to tell if virtual on-boarding is the future; but early trends seem to suggest it has the potential to do so.
