Among many whom I have interviewed in my career, almost 80% spoke about being passionate about their job, however, the question is- is passion enough to be successful? Well! my answer to this is a definite NO.
While I am a big fan of passion, it is a reliable motivating force to drive results; however, just being passionate about the job will never be enough. For instance, if we in HR are passionate about driving engagement and other organizational development initiatives, and our people do not see value in them, we shall continue to stand at ground zero.
So what is that other important ingredient to cook the perfect dish ‘Success’? It is – ‘Skill’.
We can be extremely committed about something but lack the ability to attain its mastery and thus even with unwavered passion, without the due #skillset, we shall never be able to accomplish what we initially set out to. This reminds me of #JimCollins book- #GoodtoGreat. He mentions that great companies become great as they are able to find the intersection space among- what they are best in the world for, what they are most passionate about and what drives their economic engine.
So #Passion is definitely the fuel and #Skill is the vehicle to achieving success.
